The youth membership of the club turned out in force last Friday for the annual awards night and celebration of the 2015 cricket season.  Various awards were presented by our President John Pryor, Irish Cricketers Peter Chase and Mary Waldron and Matt Ryan who represented the Grand Hotel who are sponsors of the Youth Programme.  They were all kept busy as there were three awards for each team and a total of 15 teams receiving awards from Under 11 Boys and Girls through to Under 15.  Each team manager had the often difficult task of picking the three winners from their squads and they each gave a good overview of how the season went for their team.  A full list of winners will be published separately.

There were many thanks expressed to all of the players, managers, coaches and general helpers for their commitment and hard work during the season.  The Youth section is growing every year and a number of teams had success in their league and cup competitions.  Most importantly the players all improved their cricket and the feedback is that the 2016 season can’t arrive soon enough.

In addition to the team awards the annual Colm Byrne award was presented on the night.  Kevin Jennings explained to all the history, purpose and importance of the award and members of the Byrne family were present for the presentation which was won this year by Riley Shoebridge.  Thanks to Kevin and the Byrne family and well done to Riley.  There were also additional awards to Maria O’Halloran and? Wilhelm de Clerk to recognise the Hat Tricks they each bowled this year.

While the weather was poor on Friday this didn’t prevent a large turnout and the BBQ was under pressure for some time to keep up with demand.  Thanks to the BBQ team and in particular Ronan McGeehan for his all night shift at the grill. Thanks also to all of the parents who helped put the night together.  It was an enjoyable and late night for all.
