Ladies 2s won a thrilling cup match v Leinster CC by 7 runs that went to the wire. Game started last friday on a rainy dark evening. Malahide had very bad start, having already lost Caoimhe early we lost 3 wickets on 25 to leave team 25 for 4. This deteriorated to 37 for 6 before a fightback. Grace(31) and Ella(21) rebuilt the innings with great support from Rebekah. Sarah Brophy and Lucy picked up vital runs at the end making sure we batted the full 20 overs to post 108 for 9.
We only managed 3 overs on friday due to bad light but Malahide picked up the crucial wicket of Rebecca Stokell courtesy great catch behind by Caoimhe off Lara.Leinster 21 for 1 off 3 overs.
Game continued on tuesday. Rebekah put in a superb spell of 5 overs with miserly 4 for 2 that combined with Lara and good Malahide fielding pulled run rate back in spite of a super knock of 69no by Aoife Livingston. Tess took over from Lara and picked up 2 early wickets. Caoimhe bowled crucial 3 overs at death. Malahide fielding made difference highlighed by 4 super catches. Caoimhe 2 behind stumps and 1 in front. Grace with catch on midwicket boundary in the penultimate over. Great team effort including the fielding subs on tuesday.
