If you can find it, Halverstown CC is one of the nicest places to play cricket in the lower leagues but winning there is always tricky and so it turned out to for Malahide 5ths.
With a team packed full of youngsters, Malahide elected to field first and made the most of the seaming conditions by bowling out the home side for 153. A magnificent bowling performance by Alex Davies (5-31) who picked up his first 5-for in any cricket. He bowled with pace and bounce, putting the experience Halverstown batsmen under pressure throughout all his overs and with most of his runs conceded off flying edges. His efforts were backed up at the other end by another miserly spell from Howard Askew whose 8 overs went for just 9 runs.
The reply started poorly with 2 quick wickets but then stand in skipper Jef Oliver (20), Amardeep Singh (44), Ryan Court (39) and Zac Woods-Oliver (16) brought Malahide to 130-5. The last 5 wickets fell for 21 runs and Malahide came up 2 short.
A fantastic day where the young Malahide team did everything but win.
