2's Win in Mullingar

28 Jul 2014

Cameron Shoebridge carried his bat scoring 70* to guide the 2's to a 7 wicket win over Mullingar 1.  The 16 year old showed good temperament and determination during his 46 over undefeated innings.  He opened with Brian Gilmore 55 and together they put on exactly 100 for the first wicket.  George Deans followed up with 29.
Earlier, captain Glenn Kirwan took 5 for 33 in a brilliant display of swing bowling on a mat that was consistent with good bounce.  Glenn was assisted in the seam department by solid spells from Atif Kamal and Joe Jennings.  Spinners Will Richardson and Deans also contributed.
The other feature of the game was the faultless and courageous fielding on a bumpy outfield by the 3 under 15 year old players (Alex Davies, Ryan Condron, Riley Shoebridge) all of whom subbed up at a late hour to travel to the Westmeath capital.  In fact Condron's one handed wonder catch at mid off to dismiss the dangerous Woody O'Neill was in many ways the turning point of the game.
