Cricket Club Weekly News

17 Oct 2020

Hi All,

Cricket news....,

End of 2020 Season Awards Presentation - earlier this afternoon we held our End of Season Awards Presentation at the Club. Due to COVID-19 we are unable to hold our traditional celebrations and as a result of additional restrictions issued this week whereby only groups of six can meet with a maximum of two households, our plans had be be adjusted. Instead our President, Stephen Twaddell, presented each of the winners their award individually and photos were taken. Please see photos attached.

The winners were:-

L.F.Hughes Award - Jef and Edel Woods-Oliver - for all their help and assistance as COVID supervisors over the season and working tirelessly to ensure all players at training and matches, camps and spectators were kept safe in these unprecedented times. Unfortunately Jef was unable to attend due to a prior engagement.

Liam Casey Award - Sean Drumm -  Voted by the men's players. Over the season Sean played 11 games and scored 353 runs. He scored 108 for the Men's 3rd X1 v Castleknock on 26th July which was the highest individual score of the season. Fantastic achievement for a T20 game. Sean always has a positive attitude and is well liked by all members of the Club.

Mary Craddock Award - Anna Kerrison - Voted by the women's players. Unfortunately due to the current restrictions Anna was unable to travel today to collect her award, we hope to present it to her when restrictions are eased. Michael Hingston, the women's coach, collected it on her behalf. Over the season Anna has represented the Scorchers in the Cricket Ireland Super 2s, playing in all the matches in the competition. At club level she has contributed with both bat, ball and in the field and was the leading wicket taker with 8 wickets. Anna strives to develop younger spin bowlers and coaches at softball cricket camps. She is a great role model for all the players and gives maximum effort all the time. She welcomes a challenge and not even injuries deter her from playing.

Colin Byrne Award - Adam Doyle - Over the season Adam has coached on many cricket programmes and has encouraged younger players to play and enjoy cricket. He has volunteered at International and Representative Matches and has been a great support to Phil Frost, our groundsman. Over the last 12- 18 months his game has taken a positive direction, this year he played a full season on the Men's 2nd X1 and was top batsman for the team scoring 136 runs with highest score of 61*. Adam also played 2 matches with the Men's 1st X1. Adam is a positive role model for all our young players and his love of cricket is clear to all who meet him.

At the end of the awards presentations Stephen Twaddell presented Shirley Doyle with a bouquet of flowers as a thank you for her work as Club COVID Officer.

Congratulations to Peter Chase on receiving his full time Ireland's Men's cricket contract. Deserved reward for all his hard work. Good luck Peter for the year ahead.
