Railway on Track

07 Sep 2019

Railway hit the winning run with 7 balls to spare but they won at a canter.  Varun Ghorpade 59 and AK Yadav 99 put on 150 for the first wicket in 26 overs.  The partnership, bar one, was chanceless.  7 bowlers tried their hand but no breakthrough.  James Garrigan's off spin picked up 2 wickets towards the end.  Yadav fell on 99 to a low catch by Marv Russell at mid wicket off Garrigan.  Malcolm Ogilvie held onto 2 catches behind the sticks after Marv handed over the gauntlets to bowl.  Railway 211 for 3.

Earlier both Adam Doyle 31 and Shamil Kootembeth 43 continued their good form with an excellent opening of 83 in 17 overs.  They began cautiously on the grass wicket on the main pitch in the Village but soon picked up the pace.  Marv Russell 63* and Brian Gilmore 31* came together at 132/4 after 30 and brought the score to 210/4 after 40.  The versatile Russell  brought his seasons tally for all teams to over 500 runs in addition to his wicket keeping and bowling exploits.

Robert Dickinson scored the book as Dublin V Kerry All Ireland Final ended in a draw.
