Hat-trick helps Colts conquer Clontarf

04 Aug 2019

In their latest match, the Boys' Colts XI took on Clontarf in glorious sunshine on the top pitch.  Openers Adam Doyle and Jack Grant got Malahide off to a steady start with a partnership of 65.  When Jack was out for 24, Adam continued to a solid 56.  Captain Eoghan Keohane (24) raised the run rate and Malahide ended up on 144 off 30 overs.

Clontarf needed a good start, but Matthew Jeffrey-Carrick thwarted their plans with two quick wickets.  As Clontarf began to rebuild, Malahide turned to spin.  Oscar McCormack made the breakthrough and Adam Doyle bowled with flight and control to choke off the runs, taking three wickets in the bargain.  The pick of the bowlers has to be Matthew Clarke who took a wicket in his first over and a hat-trick in his second to give him figures of 4 for 8.  Clontarf collapsed and Malahide won by 55 runs.

It was a well-deserved victory secured by a positive attitude throughout and tight fielding from the entire team.

Thank you to the parents for the plentiful food and drink and to Ann McCormack for scoring.
