The Colts scored a comfortable victory away to Rush. After a wicket fell in the first over, Jack Grant (57) and Elliot Manks (67) put the Rush bowling to the sword with a magnificent 135-run second-wicket partnership, full of attacking stroke play and positive running between the wickets. Oliver Manks (20), captain Eoghan Keohane (27) and Matthew Jeffrey-Carrick (21*) gave further impetus to the run rate with plenty of well-struck boundaries. Malahide finished their 30 overs on 218 for 5.
It was a tall order for Rush, made harder still by a tremendous opening spell of pace bowling from Matthew J-C and Oliver M with a wicket each. The change bowling attack featured the flight and guile of James Dickinson and swing and movement off the pitch from Matthew Langan. Both took 4 wickets destroying the rest of the Rush batting.
The bowlers were ably assisted by tight fielding and well-taken catches, including a superb one-handed diving effort by Oliver M (two hands next time?). Finn Doran and Oliver Jeffrey-Carrick chased down the ball and prevented vital runs. Jack kept impeccably.
The 72-run win was a credit to a fine, all-round team performance.
Thank you to the parents and grandparents who encouraged and supported from the boundary edge.
