Colts girls win in the last over

07 Jul 2019

The Colts girls team began their league campaign with an extremely exciting match against Clontarf in beautiful conditions on the top pitch. Malahide batted first and captain Maria O'Halloran made a fantastic 40* finishing with a 6 off the last ball. She was ably assisted by Maya Chalasani who came in at no.9 and made a very quick 17* in a couple of overs. Malahide made 98 runs and Clontarf began their chase confidently. A steady stream of wickets and tight bowling meant that Clontarf never truly settled. Juliette Evans Garrett gave away only 6 runs in three overs as well as taking a runout for the first wicket. Beth Deacon bowled 3 for 14 and Katie Brophy and Maya Chalasani also took wickets both bowled and caught. The day belonged to Maria O'Halloran though who not only bowled two wickets but also managed the field expertly. Clontarf required 6 off the last over to win but only made 3, a nail biting finish which could have gone either way.
