You could write virtually identical match reports about Malahide 5ths back-to-back games this past weekend. So, here goes.
Bowling first, Malahide had [insert team name] all out for [insert eminently reachable total]. But Malahide’s batsmen - with notable exceptions [insert names of exceptions] - failed to take advantage. The 5ths ended by losing by [insert number inflated by MCC’s dropped catches] runs.
Aspects of Malahide’s performance, though, merit more consideration. On Saturday against North County 4ths, Sarvjeet Singh (3 for 27), Suhaib Naseem (3 for 35), Gurpreet Singh (2 for 22) and Mathew Clarke (2 for 25) deserved their good figures. The team held on to 9 catches. Junior A players, Oliver Manks (37) and Mathew Clarke (33), scored 50% of our total.
In Sunday’s game against Greystone’s 2nds, the outstanding bowler was Dan Read who returned figures of 4 for 13 off 7 overs. Chris Deacon took 2 for 23 off 6 and Paul Devine picked up another 2. Mark Deacon (24), Oliver Manks (22) and Elliot Manks (15) did their bit in the run chase, but no one else reached double figures.
Special thanks to Robert Dickinson who did the score book for both games.
