Junior Boy's long Season stumbles to an end

29 Aug 2018

The busy Junior Boys 2018 season drew to a close on Wednesday evening out at North County in a stale "last match of the season" affair that ended in defeat for Malahide, despite scoring twice as many runs as we did there back in June.

Here's a few statistics to demonstrate the efforts by the boys and the wider Youth squad this season:

  • The Junior Boys played 24 Matches - Won 12 and lost 12
  • 14 matches were away fixtures and 10 home games
  • Of our 12 victories, 6 were away and 6 were at home.
  • We used 29 brand new cricket balls - losing several under the international stands
  • 4 Matches were refixed due to cup clashes - but only once for bad weather!
  • Malahide scored 2435 runs and took 115 wickets
  • Our top team score was 151 and the lowest 62
  • Best individual score was 57 n/o and biggest wicket haul in a game was 3
  • In total, 31 youth players played for the Junior Boys A & B Teams
  • The Junior B Team won all 6 of their league matches to top the B North League unbeaten, only falling to YM in the League semi final in a tight game.

So a busy season comes to a close, thanks to the parents for their support and to the various scorers, managers, coaches, parents and helpers who got us through the various trials and tribulations of the season, whether it was negotiating with the council to persuade them to let us play, or "breaking in" to the top pitch amid International preparations despite the protestations of the scaffolders, or playing a match watched by 20,000 "merry" Kodaline fans who were streaming past our match en route to the Castle concerts - all very enjoyable.

Individual player highlights and achievements will be acknowledged and celebrated at the Youth Awards Night on Friday 31st August

Well done to the boys and girls that played, and thanks all.
