Minor Girls race to victory over Leinster in final match

11 Aug 2018

It was the final league match of the season for the Minor Girls, playing ten-a-side, and they were all wondering if they could make it four wins in a row...

The visitors won the toss and elected to bat. Runs were kept to a bare minimum as Malahide displayed great fielding and wicket-keeping skills. The backing-up was excellent and Leinster could not seem to find a breakthrough. Malahide certainly had the upper hand in bowling, taking a total of 12 wickets in the match! Impressive!

Going into bat, Malahide looked the more confident team of the two. The Malahide girls knew Leinster would have to give their all to make any sort of comeback. However batting was solid throughout the five Malahide pairs, with a good number of boundaries in the opening and closing overs of Malahide’s innings. In addition, the girls nicked byes where they could. The final result was a win for Malahide by 119 runs! An excellent end to the season!

For some of the girls, this was their last match in Minors. We wish them every success as they move officially into the next level! The future is bright for the girls remaining in Minors. They are certainly ready to power on into next season and have already shown a well-developed understanding of the game and the skills required! Well done to you all and to all of your supporters! Thanks also to Maurice for umpiring and to our many scorers and helpers throughout the season.
