Malahide Cricket Club News story

Development Update

28 Feb 2018

Dear members

We had hoped to address this at our town hall on Friday but due to weather conditions may need to cancel.

Cricket Ireland have made contact with us to say that they now envisage building their main stadium in Abbotstown. As a result they are disengaging from the joint project to develop an International standard pavilion in Malahide. While this is disappointing news having invested so much energy and commitment, it also frees up the club to look at its future in a different light.

We now anticipate, for example, that the club can independently apply for Sports Capital Grant funding towards the cost of our own development which was not an option while we were still engaged with Cricket Ireland.

This is obviously fresh news and the executive committee want as a priority to engage with you our members to hear your views on what we do to take our great club forward. We will reorganise the Town Hall as soon as possible

Cricket Ireland's new plans will obviously take some years to come to fruition. In between we will remain the premier venue in the country. The committee will work with them on that transition period and we are also certain that Malahide will still have a role to play in hosting international cricket after their development takes place. We should also reflect on the magnificent playing facility and equipment that we now have as a result of our work to date.

We look forward to discussing with you at the Town Hall.
