The U15B boys gave their best, but in the end lost in the B League final to a strong YMCA team.
Batting first, YM’s openers gave them an electrifying start and were merciless with even slightly wayward bowling. Both retired on 50 with the total over a hundred and half the overs still to bowl. With the openers gone, our bowlers gained more control. Wilhelm (2), Eoghan and Oliver took the wickets and Matthew, Chris and Diarmuid the catches. Jack behind the stumps and Paul and Tony in the field stopped everything that came their way. With YM finishing on 165, it seemed the game was once more in the balance.
Unfortunately, when they came to bat, Malahide couldn’t quite master the YM bowling and despite an excellent 51* from Wilhelm and 20s from Rory and Adam the boys fell 48 runs short.
To reach a final is no mean achievement and the boys should feel proud of a season in which they won the northern half of the league and were undefeated until today. Well done to all and thanks to the many parents (and grandparents) who came to YMCA to support.
