The boys’ U15 (non-Junior cert) T:20 cup team suffered a cruel defeat in the semi-final against Leinster. Malahide put Leinster into bat and found fielding challenging on an uneven outfield. In a good contest between bat and ball, Leinster reached 133 for the loss of 8 wickets (3 to SJ, 2 to Rory and one each for Camron and Wilhelm). Malahide began the run chase with a 45-run opening partnership between Rory and Wilhelm. Leinster clawed the game back with wickets at critical intervals, but with one over to go Malahide’s score stood at 128 for 6. We scored the 5 runs needed, but also unfortunately lost two wickets and so matched Leinster’s score exactly (Rory 33, SJ 21 and Camron 20).
With nothing between the teams, the tie-breaker was the score after 10 overs. Here Leinster’s 68 for 3 played Malahide’s 56 for 1. It was a tough result for the Malahide boys who all fought hard in a good-tempered, keen-spirited, highly competitive and thrilling match.
Well done to the entire squad whose combined effort brought them so close to a spot in the final: Diarmuid Burke, Camron Calder, Ciaran Cope, Daniel Crampton, Chris Deacon, Adam Doyle, Rory Govan, Jack Grant, Matthew Jeffrey-Carrick, Oliver Jeffrey-Carrick, Binyam Keagan, SJ de Klerk (capt.), Wilhelm de Klerk, Eoghan Keohane, and Elliot Manks.
