In the final match on the current Pitch 2 mat, Malahide 5ths hosted Monaghan in a 30 over friendly Saturday.

Featuring a mixture of evergreens and fairly greens, Malahide restricted Monaghan to 108 in their 30 overs. Standout performers were Howard Askew (4-7), Geoff Read (2-20), Ryan Condron (2-28) and Robin Akhil (2-15). But they were admirably supported in the field with 30+ runs saved by an aggressive and committed performance throughout.

The chase started badly, losing a wicket per over until Malcolm Ogilvie and Ben Askew (playing with 1 leg, 2 arms and a lot of brain) came together. Malcolm departed just short of his 50 and Ben for 15. A not out 18 from Geoff and a final ball leg bye saw laurel victory and smooth success strew’d before our feet.
