Match report With a hint of summer arriving at last on a dry and humid evening in Rush, Malahide Ladies 1sts took on Rush Ladies 2nds in the Div 2 Cup semi-final. The skipper's run of winning the Toss came to an end and the home side elected to take the field 1st leaving Shillers and Mary to open the batting for the visitors. From the 1st over when the 2nd ball went for 6 and play stopped while the ball was being located and all the cars in the car park were moved to safer locations to the last over the opening pair kept the scoreboard flying along putting on an unbeaten opening stand of 269 runs off the 25 overs. Shillers 176no came off just 88 balls including 6 sixes and 20 fours with the 1st 50 off 18 balls and her 100 off 47 balls. Mary's fine supporting innings of 72no came off 64 balls. Brilliant batting Ladies.
This superb batting effort set the home side a very tough target to achieve when they started their reply. Again a mixture of youth and experience opened the bowling for the visitors with young Margaret Richardson making the breakthrough in the very 1st over bowling Rush opener Emma Ryan for 1. This great start was backed up at the other end by Lynn Adams not to be outdone by her younger teammate took 2 wickets in her opening over thanks to excellent help behind the stumps by Mary Waldron. Continued pressure in the field and tight bowling caused trouble for the home side with wickets falling at regular intervals leaving S Carthy stranded on 18no when the final wicket fell in the 12th over with Rush all out for 35. Lynn Adams finished with 8 for 7 off 5.3 overs, Margaret Richardson with 2 for 11 off 4 overs and Marianne Herbert 0 for 16 off 2 overs. Mary Waldron took a catch and 2 sharp stumpings and Clare Shillington rounded off her evening by taking the 1 catch to go to a fielder. An excellent win and great team performance with the oldies just edging out the young ones for a change.
