Junior A Boys impress against Railway

18 Aug 2018

With a very strong squad selected to host Railway on a muggy Saturday morning on the top pitch, the visitors knew they were in for a tough day by firstly arriving with only 9 players and then losing the toss to our Captain Jack Grant. Jack didn't hesitate - "we'll have a bat."

We lent RU Raj and Justin to help in their field and our lads performed very well and fairly saving multiple boundaries from the Malahide openers, but it mattered little, our top three of Jack Grant, Mathew Clarke and Aaron Doyle were rampant, all retiring not out in the 30's, 11 fours and 2 huge sixes between them. Daniel (1) and James (6) went cheaply, both going for big shots and Oliver JC (17) and Michael (17 no) and Finn (7 no) kept clubbing the ball to all parts to the end of the 20th over. 151 on the board must have looked daunting to the young Railway batters.

The Railway top four did well, keeping up with the required rate early on, but our bowling was accurate most notably from Oliver JC (2 for 7 off 3) and Rohit (2 for 11 off 2) but all 10 of our lads had a bowl and all did well. Captain Jack swapped keeping duties with James midway through to have a rare bowl, taking a wicket with his first ball! As someone once said, "Catches win Matches" and all 7 wickets we took were out caught, well done to James (2), Mathew, Aaron, Michael (2) and Finn for that.

So Railway's 20 overs ended with 96 on the board and they did very well to get that close, but Malahide's lads were in winning form and style on the day and were worthy and imperious victors. A fine team effort and very well done to all 11 on the day.
