U15Bs season ends with win

13 Aug 2018

The U15B boys team were involved in a keen context away to Railway.  Eoghan Keohane and Mathew Clarke opened the bowling and combined for the first wicket when Eoghan took an excellent catch off Mathew's bowling.  The pressure was further applied by accurate spells from Adam Doyle and Oliver Jeffrey-Carrick (1 for 23) against a powerful Railway middle order.  Just as Railway might have been expected to push ahead on came Aaron Doyle and Rohit Upadhyay to take two wickets each.  The most impressive bowling statistic, though, was that no wides were bowled or byes conceded - almost unheard of at this level.

The bowlers were assisted by some outstanding fielding, particularly from Raj Upadhyay, Finn Doran and James Dickinson.  Oliver and Mathew both made tremendous diving stops to prevent not only a certain four but even the single.

The target of 94 looked eminently achievable with a big outfield, but excellent Railway fielding and tight bowling made it a real contest.  Adam Doye hit some big blows in his 25, while Jack Grant at the other end accumulated his runs with fine running between the wickets and by punishing the bad ball.  A middle order wobble added to the drama, but Eoghan (20*) played a captain's innings assisted by Oliver at the end to pass the target in the 19th over.

That's it for the U15Bs this season.  We fought hard in every game and the margins of our defeats were narrow.  The team always featured a mix of genuine U15s plus Junior and Minor players.  Those younger players will learn from the experience, while the older ones will be an integral part of the U17s next season.

Thanks to the many parents who scored, supported, and provided teas and lifts.  Your help was much appreciated.
